| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 19th, 2001: Adlam Hurls Rays to Shutout Win According to Sal Adlam of the Morant Rays, "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location." He told his pitching philosophy to sportswriters in the postgame interview after his 2-0 victory over Halfwaytree.
He blanked them on a 5-hitter, allowed 2 walks and had 1 strikeout. "I really felt comfortable the whole game," Adlam said.
His manager echoed his comments, saying, "He hit his spots time and time again."
| | Monday, September 17th, 2001: SL Player of the Week Goes to Bélanger of Morant 25-year-old Luc Bélanger sent shock waves through Jamaica League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Bélanger made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .438 average, 14 hits in 32 at-bats, 5 home runs and 12 runs batted in.
Where the Morant Rays second baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Bélanger certainly made his mark last week.
So far this year Bélanger is hitting .305 with 23 home runs. | | Wednesday, September 5th, 2001: Red-Hot Bat: Padmore Collects Cycle Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but hitting for the cycle is much more rare. Tory Padmore was on fire today, going 4 for 5 and hitting for the cycle against Morant at Channel Yard. His batting escapade sparked the Pt Antonio Tuna to a 10-5 victory over the Rays. For the day the Tuna catcher scored 3 runs and drove in 3.
The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power, and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed on the basepaths and a well-placed drive deep into the outfield.
He told reporters after the game, "It just happened. Must have been fate or something... you can't plan this. I was more concerned with winning the game."
T. Padmore hit an RBI triple in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off S. LaGourgue in the 9th.
This year Padmore has hit at a .275 clip with 97 hits, 13 home runs, 64 RBIs and 59 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
