| Breaking News |  | Friday, October 12th, 2001: Mongooses Star Wins 2001 Silver Seams
The Silver Seams for 2001 has been presented and the North League winner is Pepe Barajas of Montego.
"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Barajas. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Mongooses star told reporters.
Barajas excelled with an impressive 20-8 record in 31 starts. In 245 innings he yielded 207 hits and 42 walks, while striking out 227 and compiling a fine 3.16 ERA.

| Wednesday, October 10th, 2001: Montego Triumphs in Jamaica Series
It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "To the victors go the spoils." Montego got the Jamaica League Jamaica Series trophy today with a 3-2 victory over Pt Antonio at Westbay Coliseum. The Mongooses won their 2nd championship after taking the series with the Tuna 4-2.
"They've got grit!" one fan said. "They know how to win when they have to. They're the League Champions!"
The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the North League West Division and a 87-67 record.

Ariel Mellad bent a little, but he didn't break against the Maroons. The Montego pitcher hurled a 5-hit 9-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 2 walks and putting up 10 strikeouts.
"Ariel is good at getting out of jams," his manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on-base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
This year Mellad has a 11-10 record and a 4.31 ERA.
